Troop Meeting - 14 May
At this week's meeting we are looking at how to "pack your pack" for a hike. Like navigation, this is an important skill for the forthcoming district hike.
Also, don't forget the district roller-skating night on Wednesday.

Troop Meeting - 7 May
This week's meeting will incorporate the going up parade for the cubs who have recently started attending at scouts. Phil, the cub leader, is hoping to organise a sausage sizzle and the scouts will be constructing a "bridge" for the cubs to traverse to finalise their journey to scouts.

At this week's meeting will we be continuing the navigation activities from two weeks ago. In particular, we will undertake some night navigation. Remember we have the district hike coming up in June. If you have a compass, please bring it along.

Troop Meeting - 23 April 2012
On Monday 23 April, 2nd Mildura Scouts are going “lawn bowling”.
The activity will be held at Mildura Lawn Bowls on Cureton Avenue. Please note that the times for this activity are from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Scouts will need to either wear socks or go barefoot on the greens. Parents are welcome to come and watch.
It is most important that all scouts be on their best behaviour. The lawn bowling club has explicitly informed us that bad behaviour will not be tolerated!

At this week's meeting will we will be focusing on construction skills. This will give our newer scouts an opportunity to start practising knots and lashings and will give our PLs and APLs the chance to extend their leadership skills.

Troop Meeting - 6 Feb 2012
Welcome back to all returning 2nd Mildura scouts for 2012 and welcome to all new scouts. Our first troop meeting for 2012 will be a fun night focusing on everyone getting to know each other.
As always, 2nd Mildura will ensure that this year is chock full of interesting and challenging activities. In addition to the district events, raft regatta, district hike, Cohen Shield camp and "Mud Kamp", 2nd Mildura will again be holding a couple of patrol activity overnight hikes and a couple of activity days throughout the year. We hope to return to Lake Cullulleraine for another sailing activities day sometime in the second term and, possibly, organise a rock climbing and abseiling day in the second half of the year.
2012 is a jamboree year. We will be organising a jamboree fund-raising committee at the second troop meeting on 13 Feb. A note will be handed out at the at the troop meeting on 6 Feb with more information.

Patrol Activity Hike – Hattah-Kulkyne National Park Friday 13 January to Saturday 14 January
2nd Mildura Scouts is organising an overnight patrol activity hike at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park on Friday 13 to Saturday 14 January. For full details follow this link.

Holiday Best Wishes & Starting Date for 2012
On behalf of the 2nd Mildura scout leaders, Roy, Julie and myself, David, I would like to thank all the parents, grandparents and others who have helped us out in 2012. We would also particularly like to thank all the scouts for their willingness to participate and really have a go at the various activities that have occurred over the year.
We hope that everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing everyone back in 2012 on Monday 6 February.

Patrol Activity Hike During the Holidays
Several of the 2nd Mildura Scouts need to organise and participate in a hike in order to complete achievement badge milestones.
Consequently, we will be holding a patrol activity hike during the school holidays after New Year. This will be an overnight, carry-everything hike setting out after lunch on the first day and finishing before lunch on the second day. At this time, we are considering holding the hike at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park.
Can all scouts (or their parents or guardians) who are interested in taking part on this hike please contact me, David Cleary, on 0430 137 166 so that we can choose a date for the hike and ensure that everyone who needs to be is properly involved in the planning.

End of Year Breakup: Group Barbecue
2nd Mildura’s scouts will be joining with the joeys, cubs, venturers and rovers for a group barbecue for our end of year breakup.
Please note that the breakup is on Tuesday 13 December at the Nichols Point Scout Centre from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
A barbecue will be provided. Please bring along a salad or dessert to share.

IMPORTANT - CHANGE OF LOCATION for NAVIGATION ACTIVITY, Monday 28 November 2011
Due to excessive numbers of prickles and thistles at Apex Park, we have had to change the location of the navigation activity for Monday, 28 November, to the old billabong pump house at the intersection of Cureton Avenue and the northern end of Cooke Street, Nichols Point.
All other details of the activity remain unchanged. Scouts need to be dropped off and picked up from this location at 7:00pm and 9:00pm, respectively. If you have a compass, please bring it. Please wear closed shoes and long trousers as we will be walking through the bush.

National Tree Day - Sunday 7 August, 9:30am to 11:30am
IMPORTANT: Scouts in Mildura now have our own "National Tree Day" on Sunday 7 August 2011. Council has allocated Sunraysia Scouts the Railway Linear Reserve between 11th Street & 12th Street, Mildura as our area of responsibility.
The scouts' "National Tree Day" event will take place on Sunday 7 August from 9:30am to 11:30am. Can everyone meet at Heley Court Playground. To get there:

Linking and Investiture Ceremony - 30 June 2011
2nd Mildura will be holding a linking and investiture ceremony on Thursday 30 June 2011 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Nichols Point Scout Centre. The ceremony will be followed by a free sausage sizzle.

Patrol Activity Hike - Kings Billabong 2 - 3 July 2011
2nd Mildura Scouts will be holding a one-night patrol activity hike at Kings Billabong on the first weekend of the school holidays. We will leave from Psyche Pumps at Kings Billabong at 2:00pm on Saturday 2 July and return to the same location by 12:00noon on Sunday 3 July. For further information, see the following links:
